We love hearing feedback from our users about the Nexercise lifestyle. We love it so much that we take what our users tell us and use it to make improvements to every part of our business.
With that said, we’re beyond excited to announce the newest features in the latest  version of Nexercise, 1.7 (DOWNLOAD IT FREE IT NOW).

Cue Drumroll……

The new user centric features are:

1. You do not have to exercise with your iPhone/iPod Touch on you to get credit towards rewards.
2. You can view your workout history with the new calendar feature.
3. The app can run in the background for extended periods, if needed.

Let’s look at each feature a bit closer.

1. You do not have to exercise with your iPhone/iPod Touch on you to get credit towards rewards.

Ok, we realize that some of you don’t exercise wearing clothing that have pockets or wear an armband, or you just simply don’t like the bulk of a device on your streamlined body. The latest Nexercise app version was built with you in mind.

We now allow “non-validated” activities, where your device does not have to be on your body.  Nexercise still uses the motion of your phone to prove that you’ve actually exercised, and with this feature we can’t prove you did it, but we know you still want to track that you did it.  You won’t get maximum points for times we cannot validate, but YOU WILL STILL QUALIFY FOR THE SAME REWARDS as everyone else!

To track a non-validated activity:

1) Start Nexercise, pick your activity and start tracking.
2) Perform your activity and leave your phone anywhere you want. On the treadmill tray, in your purse, on the floor, in your locker, on the side of a cliff… we don’t care where! 🙂
3) Stop Nexercise when you’re done, and submit the activity.

2. You can view your workout history with the new calendar feature.

So, just recently a Nexercise user emailed our team asking that we add a feature that accumulated an account of user activity. She wanted to show her doctor that she had been active. Her timing couldn’t have been better; it’s now available!

Use it to show your doctor, insurance provider, human resources and wellness coordinator, or your physical trainer that you indeed are actively moving your body.

3. The app can run in the background for extended periods, if needed.

The way Apple multitasking works is quite limited. You can only use limited services while in the background. One of the key ways Nexercise validates that people are doing real physical activity is to use the motion of your device. This uses fancy sensors called accelerometers and gyroscopes to pattern match the movements. Unfortunately this capability is not possible to access while in the background. Apple limits background tasks to limited items such as Music, Voice over IP services, GPS, and File transfer. They somehow missed my memo that we need to detect the device orientation in the background! That being said we are on your side! We think it’s absolutely ridiculous that we can’t access this data, so we have decided to make a concession: Now, users can get partial credit for the “non-validated” time (time we can’t track your motion) while running in the background, but YOU WILL STILL QUALIFY FOR THE SAME REWARDS as everyone else!  For more technical details, visit here.

Tell us how the new build works for you; better yet, tell a friend!
