We all have the best of intentions when it comes to getting in shape. How many of us climb into bed after a lazy day thinking: “OK, tomorrow I’m going to take a long jog after work”? And perhaps we’ll even keep this resolution until the end of the day…
…until we get home.
Then: the couch is so comfy, your feet are tired, and you’ve got to start thinking about dinner. Bye by exercise motivation! We know – we’ve all been there, but there’s great news: you don’t have to miss out on the benefits of fitness, even when you’re feeling lazy!
Here’s the key: when we hear the word “exercise,” we often intimidate ourselves by setting unrealistic goals. We think that in order to “exercise” we have to run for miles, swim for hours, or lift hundreds of pounds. Not true.
If you find yourself feeling this way, repeat after me: some is always better than none!
What if you set yourself an easy peasy exercise goal of, say, fifteen minutes, to start out? Go outside, walk briskly around the block, and then do some stretches.
Do this for a couple of days, and when you see how fun and friendly exercise can be (and experience how good you feel afterwards), you will soon find yourself wanting to do more each day.
And remember, every activity – from aerobics to yard work – counts towards a reward on our iPhone fitnes app!
So if you’re having trouble getting off the couch after work, start slowly. It’s not a race, and if you set out with reasonable exercise goals, you’ll be surprised how easy it is to keep it up!
