The number one complaint (besides laziness) when it comes to exercising is that it isn’t any fun. Getting up when you’re still really tired, and trying to motivate yourself to go for a run isn’t normally going to work. Of course, this doesn’t mean that exercise can’t be fun. You just gotta find the right exercise that you enjoy! One thing that is challenging on your body and is fun is dancing.
Now, when I say dancing, I don’t mean going to a club in downtown New York City that exclusively plays today’s top hits and sit there and bob your head. I’m talking about actual dancing; Salsa, swing, and even line dancing. They’re all great forms of exercise and they are a lot of fun.
Now, I know what you’re going to say. You’re going to lament how you have two left feet or how you don’t want to look like a fool. That’s why you take a beginners class and work from there! Look online at Craiglist or Living Social. There are all sorts of events, classes, seminars, workshops, and much more going on in your area. There’s all sorts of opportunities to learn how to dance. And i’m pretty sure the people in your class will be just as bad at dancing as you. The important thing is to not care what others think, and to have fun!
Dancing is a rigorous cardio exercise. You’re constantly moving and challenging your body to perform various movements. Essentially, your body is going to be working really hard to match each movement that you want to make. Thus, you are burning calories!
Dancing is also another great way to meet people. Maybe you’ll make a couple of friends and you can help each other practice. Or you could find something much more. Who knows until you try?
