NEXERCISE ACQUIRES FITNESS APP SWORKIT TO PROVIDE CUSTOM, INCENTIVIZED WORKOUTS
Two of the Mobile Health Industry’s Leading Fitness Apps Combine Forces to Enhance Health Nationwide
Washington D.C., – June 4, 2014- Nexercise, the mobile platform that uses friendly competition and real rewards to motivate busy people to lose weight and stay fit, today announced its acquisition of Sworkit. In addition to its catalog of 200 exercises, Nexercise will utilize the Sworkit platform to provide customized circuit training workouts to its community of more than 3 million users.
According to Marketdata Enterprises, Inc., Americans spend $61 billion on weight loss items annually, but collectively are still gaining weight. The Nexercise platform incentivizes and rewards users for positive and healthy behaviors- exercising and weighing themselves among others- while Sworkit provides targeted workouts to ease users in; a winning combination for any consumer looking to make a lifestyle change. Sworkit helps round out the Nexercise offering by delivering simple, guided workouts that users can perform anywhere, anytime, in as few as five minutes. The acquisition will add to Nexercise’s 10 million exercise sessions, and 500 million minutes of physical activity already logged.
“The National Weight Control Registry identified exercising at home, weighing ones self every day, and eating breakfast every day as three key behaviors of people who lost at least 30 pounds and sustained their weight loss for at least six years,” said Ben Young, CEO and co-founder of Nexercise. “This acquisition allows us to directly address the first two behaviors, to more efficiently and effectively serve individuals that struggle with living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”
“Only 20 percent of the human population is self-motivated to exercise consistently,” said Greg Coleman, COO and co-founder of Nexercise. “The rest of us need additional incentive to proactively live a healthy lifestyle, and that’s what this partnership will be addressing.”
Sworkit was designed and created in 2012 when Ryan Hanna wanted a project to work on in order to teach himself to code after completing a course through Codecademy.com. He hoped to combine his fitness knowledge from being an officer in the US Army with his technical knowledge from being a Network Administrator. Sworkit was born out of the desire to create a very simple tool that would help people at any level get fit or fitter.
Nexercise is a mobile platform that uses friendly competition and real rewards to motivate busy people to lose weight and stay fit.
